Source14 December 2008 The Whittemore Peterson Institute for research and treatment of Neuroimmune Diseases located in Nevada USA has announced it is approximately only 12 months away from the clinical establishment of a blood test for ME/CFS. The News piece on it au.youtube.com/watch?v=nfLoiqf6I4o&NR=1The major benefit of a blood test that will accurately distinguish even one sub-type of the amorphous and vague CFS illness construct is that scientist can begin to research homogeneous groups of patients all with the same disease. Since 1988 when the US CDC introduced the vague 'fatigue' oriented concept of CFS, and more recently the even less specific Empirical Definition of CFS, advances in understanding of the disease has been severely hindered by research carried out on mixed groups of patients, many of whom most likely didn't or don't have ME/CFS. The institute's website can be viewed at www.wpinstitute.org/. Far out hey! That's a bit scary about the cancer part

Shingles? cancer? . I dont think thats true everything i've read is to the contrary. But i guess if your an older person and your immune is always supressed, wouldn't be very helpful. But which kind of cancers? the main ones like breast, prostate/testiculer are linked to over-active hormones, which i dont think is a problem with us lol, well men at least i cant speak on behalf of woman. Anyway that'd be bloody great if they came up with a test to deternine it , but i wonder, just wonder, to what degree of your fatigue it determines, whether its the real dealers like us or the 3 monthers like others. Theres still alot of unanswered questions about the causes n stuff to, like, yer i dunno. Might show it to DR Lewis in Feb see what he thinks.

Actually I've read in a fair few places about shingles and it seems like a common enough occurance with ME to me. As for the cancer... Scares the crap out of me but when you think about it, it's not really surprising. If the body deteriorates over time with ME and cancerous cells are crazy cells that don't mutate or die and regenerate properly, then, I dunno, the connection makes sense to me. But I'm with you. I want to know what cancers they are talking about because so far I haven't come across that many ME sufferers with cancer and the ones I did, didn't exactly give the impression that the ME and cancer were related. Especially with the ones who developed ME after remission. I'm trying to remember where I read it and what cancer it was If they can develop a blood test to test for ME then they should be able to start finding out all the answers to all the other questions. Hopefully we'll get to find out soon.
