Hey, everybody! I haven't been very musical for a very long time (except for listening to radio & CD's) but GUESS WHAT I DID YESTERDAY!!! I bought a HARP!!!!! (At the thrift store.) It's SO COOL, it's a folk harp/lap harp, with red white & blue strings for learning & gorgeous elaborately carved wood. It came with the self-teaching book & the tuning tool. I already have an autoharp & know how to play it, but it's not a very popular instrument, except in oldstyle Pentecostal or backwoods mountain cultures. A REAL harp seems to be the latest reviving awesome growing-in-popularity instrument. I played with it last night, trying to get it tuned. I've got it halfway tuned, have played my first Doe-Ray-Me-Fa-So & my first C-chord. I LOVE it!! I broke a D string trying to get it to the right octave, but I can still play without that one until I get it replaced. Can't wait til I learn how to play it, I want to eventually replace the plastic strings with gold-tone metal. It would not only be gorgeous, I love the more bell-like sound. Harp music can be so soothing & relaxing, & I hope playing it will be too. - - - - - Susana

My main instrument is piano, which I play by technique & sight, not chord method. I also know a few chords on guitar, which my Daddy taught me. Also have played choir bells in church as a teenager, but no more than three bells per piece. Sure do wish I had that old set of church bells or could run into one to buy cheap. >>>>> My daughter is the amazing one in the family musically, though she hasn't played in a lon g time. In 5th grade she joined the band & tried to play flute, but her hands were too small. For those 3 days, she had watched the teacher teaching the trumpet students, so she came home & asked to see her daddy's silver trumpet, messed with it to get it ready to play, & proceeded to play her first scale! After two weeks, she played "God Bless America in front of the congregation during church, with no forewarning that she was gonna be asked to do it. (She had just brought the trumpet to play at the request of the Sunday School teacher for the story about Joshua & the walls of Jerico.) After that she taught herself to play keyboard. She can pretty much play any instrument she decides to pick up, in almost no time.

Having a harp would be so awesome! I love harps. Not as much as cellos, but they're still awesome. Would you ever share pictures? I'd love to see it!

He gets so much CRAPPY stuff in the background, though, I hate it, or he gets way close to your feet at a strange angle, so your face looks fine, but the rest of you looks like an albino giant with anemia & huge clown feet!!! >>> As for jammin', I haven't even played the piano in SO long. Doesn't usually take me long to get back to where I was though. But I haven't even finished getting the harp tuned, though, broke a string, but soon I should have some time to start learning to actually PLAY it. See my 3 new threads (today or tomorrow) & you'll see where my time has been going! Exciting stuff!

Amusing isn't it? That's got to be so exciting! I wonder how hard it is to learn to play. I guess it would be the same sort of difficulty level it is with other string instruments maybe?
